Speaker 1 (00:07):
I love when these podcast opportunities come up, because this,
I feel like, is when I'm the strongest when speculation arises,
when things are being reported, when rumors are swirling, people
can get lost in the wonderment, in the curiosity, and
(00:37):
that's when I can come out and spit straight facts,
give a strong opinion. And I believe that this opinion
isn't ninety percent right eighty five percent right now. I'm
not just throwing something out there. I believe that this
opinion is when one hundred percent right, and there is
no doubt in my mind that this opinion is one
(00:58):
hundred percent right. But first, let me tell you about
Hoakland Farm. Hokland Farm beef has the best rotationally grades
one grass fed beef. This beef is silvon quarters and halves,
and they have custom sample packs so you can try
before you buy. Hokland Farm call them today at nine
five two four one five four one. My wife called
(01:21):
Hokland Farm and I and we have delicious sirloin steaks,
tea bone steaks, chuck roasts, ground beef and more. For
only four dollars and fifteen cents a pound. You go
to Walmart buy a chuck roast. Yeah, have fun eight
dollars a pound with that stuff. Hokland Farm beef grass
fed four dollars and fifteen cents a pound and get
(01:44):
twenty percent off. I mentioned the Minnesotes and podcast nine
five two four nine one five four one. Okay, let's
spit straight facts. Matthew Stafford is rumored to be on
the trade market, and the finest rumor is that the
Minnesota Vikings are very interested in getting a deal done.
(02:07):
And it makes sense, right, Kevin O'Connell coached Matthew Stafford
the year they won the Super Bowl. There's that connection there,
and trades are all about connections. That DeVante Adams went
to the Jets, why because he has the connection with
Aaron Rodgers. Happens all the time. So Matthew Stafford and
the Kevin O'Connell connection and this trade rumor, it makes
sense because they are familiar with one another. Well, this
(02:31):
report comes via Jack Settlement, who I've never heard of
until this moment, and he says the Vikings and Rams
are in serious trade talks for Matthew Stafford. Apparently Minnesota
made a push to trade for Stafford this offseason, but
are now revisiting with the idea that he can be
(02:53):
a piece to help them win a super Bowl this season.
I don't think there's any doubt that if we could
have a Super Bowl, we would have a super Bowl.
We would take a super Bowl, regardless of what it
took to get. If you have to trade for Matthew Stafford,
(03:14):
trade for Matthew Stafford, get yourself a super Bowl. We've
never had one of those. It'd be nice to have
one of those. It'd be nice to turn towards the
rest of the league, specifically Green Bay Packers fans who
mocked us for not having a Super Bowl and say, yeah,
we have a Super Bowl, suck on that. But there's
no guarantee that you're gonna win a Super Bowl. And
(03:34):
as this trade rumor is happening, there's a few reasons
why this trade is not going to happen. And Jack
Settlement continues to say says reuniting Stafford with head coach
Kevin O'Connell is the all in move. Minnesota believes it
needs to upgrade at QB this season. Meanwhile, the Rams
(03:57):
have growing interest in signing Sam Donald long term if
a deal happens. From that standpoint, It makes sense from
the RAMS standpoint trading for Sam Donald signing him long term.
Since Stafford is older, you get off Stafford's contract. And
this is one of those situations where it feels a
(04:19):
little Charlie Walters Justin Jefferson trade speculation situation. Jack is
probably getting this from the Los Angeles RAMS perspective. If
they could trade Matthew Stafford from Sam Donald, they would
probably do that because Stafford is thirty six years old
and he has a cap hit of fifty three million
(04:41):
dollars next year and fifty three million dollars in twenty
twenty six. So if you could get off that contract
to get a Sam Donald that has shown an ability
to play it, or Kevin O'Connell. Kevin O'Connell came from
Sean mcvay's system. That makes sense from the from the
RAMS perspective, but it doesn't make any sense from the
Minnesota Vikings perspective. You know, Charlie Waltzers was re born
(05:01):
that Justin Jefferson might be traded from the Minnesota Vikings. Well,
that wasn't coming from the Minnesota Vikings organization. That was
coming from other organizations hoping to trade for Justin Jefferson.
Same thing with Matthew Stafford. This ain't coming from the Vikings.
This is coming from the Rams because they want to
get off his contract and he's old, and they want
a fresh, young quarterback like Sam Donald that it can
(05:22):
perform well under Sean mcvay's system. And Sean mcvay's proven
that he can take quarterbacks like Sam Donald, just like
Kevin O'Connell is this season and make them really good players.
So the Minnesota Vikings are not trading for Matthew Stafford.
And here's why. Well, I talked about the contract situation
fifty three million, fifty three million, and the Minnesota Vikings
(05:46):
worked so damn hard to have contract flexibility this summer.
Caps based flexibility this summer that they are not gonna
win on a Sam Donold for Matthew Stafford trade. The goal,
(06:06):
or the hope is that JJ McCarthy is the quarterback
one for the Minnesota Vikings next season. Now, I mean
he hasn't played a single down, He hasn't played a
single regular season play, But I think that's the hope,
right You hope he has a good training camp and
he can come out of training camp healthy and rested
(06:28):
and sharp. And that's the Minnesota Vikings direction. What you
don't want to do is have a quarterback that you
have to pay fifty three million dollars a year. I mean,
I guess you have to pay him twenty seven million
dollars a year, But the cabin is fifty three million
with roster bonuses and options and restructured whatever. The cap
(06:48):
is fifty three million. What would be worse for a
guy coming into the league. Your team is cap strung
because you traded for Matthew Stafford and he's not even
gonna play. I can't think of a more stupid idea.
(07:09):
But again, if the Minnesota Vikings feel like Matthew Stafford
can win the Super Bowl this year, I still don't
think it's gonna happen. Stafford his numbers this year three touchdowns,
four interceptions, a completion percentage of sixty six point seven.
Now all of that could change in a Minnesota Vikings
(07:29):
uniform because Cooper Cup and Poka Nakua haven't been available
all season so or hardly all season, so his numbers
don't look as sharp this year. But the Minnesota Vikings
are not gonna trade for Matthew Stafford. They worked so
hard to get free agency flexibility, and I could see
(07:52):
a trade more so happening for a Dexter Lawrence because
he's a big time defensive player. He's got a big
contract for the Giant. But maybe that's just your free
agency splash. It's different with Matthew Stafford because you already
have your quarterback of the future on your roster and
you don't want a backup quarterback holding up fifty three
(08:13):
million dollars in cap room. It's like the Minnesota Vikings.
The tweet said from Jack Settlement, I'm gonna share this
with you, and this is the problem I had with
the tweet, the second one. He says reuniting Stafford with
O'Connell is the all in move. Minnesota believes it needs
to upgrade at QB this season. The Minnesota Vikings are
(08:35):
not in an all in situation despite having a five
to one record. They weren't even supposed to be good
this year. Over under had them at six point five.
The all in move happens in two years when you
trade for a wide receiver or a defensive player. When
JJ McCarthy is your starting quarterback one and you need
(08:57):
one more piece to win the Super Bowl. It's not yet,
it's not right now, and the Minnesota Vikings are not
gonna risk trading for Matthew Stafford and thus ruining any
potential development of JJ McCarthy. That is not something the
(09:19):
Minnesota Vikings would be interested in doing. Okay, that is
not gonna happen. Sorry for that little air there. I
hit the stop recording button instead of the stop sharing buttons,
so I A. Anyways, thank you for watching this episode
