Speaker 1 (00:11):
Possibility of adding Daniel Jones to our organization. Still kind
of working through the final details on that and some
roster maneuvering and things, but we're expecting, anticipating Daniel to
arrive Friday morning and very much looking forward to that

(00:31):
good addition to our quarterback room. I love our quarterback
room already.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
That's Kevin O'Connell on new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daniel Jones.
This tweet is courtesy of Adam Schefter. If you're watching
on YouTube, you'll see it with me. Contract update. Daniel
Jones is signing a one year deal with the Vikings
through the remainder of the season for three seventy five

(01:00):
thousand dollars per source. He will start out on the
Vikings practice squad, and Jones could still could sign with
another team if another starting quarterback went down in the
next three weeks. Jones still is scheduled to become a
free agent after this season. Ladies and gentlemen, we got him.

(01:24):
Former New York Giants quarterback selects the Minnesota Vikings ahead
of the San Francisco forty nine ers, ahead of the
Baltimore Ravens, ahead of other interested teams like the Las
Vegas Raiders, and it's not so much about the signing.

(01:45):
Then it is a massive compliment to Kevin O'Connell and
the Minnesota Vikings organization because there were a lot of
suitors for Daniel Jones and he could have selected either
one of them, and he chose the Minnesota Vikings. Why
did he choose the Minnesota Vikings. Well, you don't have

(02:06):
to look any further than what the Minnesota Vikings have
done to resurrect Sam Donald's career. Sam Donald has been
a bounce around quarterback and his first season with the
Minnesota Vikings, they're nine to two and he is looking

(02:28):
like a player that is going to receive a massive
contract this offseason. He's going to bank on his one
successful NFL season, sign big elsewhere and hopefully carries him
through the rest of his career. And that's what Daniel
Jones is hoping for a fresh start in the Minnesota

(02:50):
Vikings organization. He's basically following Sam Donald's footsteps to the
San Francisco forty nine ers, and then long term, his
goal would be to sign somewhere else this offseason as
a potential QB one because let's face the facts, Daniel
Jones does not want to be the backup quarterback on

(03:11):
the Minnesota Vikings next year. He's gonna test the market.
He's gonna see the market, and you know what he's
gonna say to the teams that are looking for a
starting quarterback. Well, I learned so much from the Vikings organization.
Do you see what they do with Sam Donald. I
learned so much from Kevin O'Connell and Sam Donald and
JJ McCarthy. And this is the first time I was

(03:32):
in a steady organization. This idea that the Vikings could
lock in Daniel Jones as the backup quarterback next year
is preposterous because Daniel Jones wants more than that. Vikings
have what six games left, get some practice reps, learn

(03:54):
under a steady organization, and hope that that is enough
to convince another team to sign you as a potential
QB one on the roster, like the Raiders or the
Panthers or some other team that could look for a
QB one next year. So I don't think it's a

(04:16):
realistic possibility for the Minnesota Vikings to retain Daniel Jones
next year unless they tell him that it is a
legit competition for QB one with J J. McCarthy. That
is the only scenario I see where Daniel Jones is

(04:37):
back on the Minnesota Vikings. He's taking the Sam Darnold
of San fran route right now, and then his goal
instead of waiting behind a Brock Purty for an entire year,
his goal will be to do it in six games
and then sign somewhere else this offseason as a free agent.

(04:58):
And you know what, the Vikings still win because then
they get a com a compensatory pick. I struggle with
that word. A compensatory pick. Yes, suck on that, a
compensatory pick. So the Minnesota Vikings, if they convinced Daniel

(05:25):
Jones to resign, which I don't think he would unless
he's promised a QB one competition, win either way because
they either get him back as backup quarterback or get
a pick for him if he signs somewhere else. Someone
posted a good tweet I thought earlier this game from
Will Raggetts says Daniel Jones choosing the Vikings over a

(05:50):
variety of other options tells you a lot about how
players around the league, especially QB's view. Kevin O'Connell and
this organization impossible to ignore what he's done with Donald
and others. And that was my exact point earlier. This
is a massive compliment to the Vikings organization and what

(06:10):
they've been able to do with Sam Darnold, who went
from team to team to team and now he's on
his fourth team and now he's going to get a
massive contract extension somewhere else. So that's why Daniel Jones
chose the Minnesota Vikings. You know, the organization is steady.
Kevin O'Connell is an offensive minded head coach, and if

(06:33):
Sam Donald goes down, well, then let's see Daniel Jones
as the backup quarterback because Daniel Jones is way more
capable than wild thing Nick Mullins. I don't know if
there's a more entertaining quarterback in the league than Nick Mullins,
because every single time he drops back to pass, it's
unpredictable because you don't know what he's gonna do with

(06:56):
that football. We saw it last year and he either
drives it forty five yards down the field for a
massive first down or throws it thirty five yards down
the field into three defenders and it gets picked off
for six points. Going the other way. So he's an
entertaining quarterback, but he's not steady Eddie. Daniel Jones can
provide some steadiness at that backup quarterback spot behind Sam Donald,

(07:21):
who has gone down a few times this season. If
one of those injuries becomes a two to three week injury,
bring in Daniel Jones. Look over Nick Mullins because Daniel Jones,
even though it was against an added Dontel defense, he's
much more proven then Sam Donald. Then he's much more

(07:44):
proven than Nick Mullins. That's a fact. He beat the
Vikings in a playoff game. And someone posted is by
Ben Lieber. Ben Leeber works for the Vikings does sidelines
for Kfan, and he posted a tweet following the Vikings
signing of Daniel Jones. He said this, I'm cool if

(08:07):
he's going to be the backup next year, but if
this is short term, then I don't see the upside
for the Vikings. Well, one we get the compensatory pick.
Compensatory pick, yes, and two he replies to another guy,
I'm good with Mullins. Dude can sling it and I

(08:29):
like what he brings. Like I said, I think DJ
is great as a backup for next year, but getting
him fully ready for this year is going to be tough.
And I responded, I took that tweet and I responded
to it. I respect your take, but it took Josh
Dobbs three to four days, and it wasn't just three

(08:49):
or four days. And he threw him in and he
was a car wreck. Josh Dobbs was traded to the
Vikings and in three or four days suited up for
the game versus the Atlanta Falcons as Jaron Hall's backup.
Hall goes down early in that game. In comes Josh
Jobs and Dobbs Mania goes wild. He is the storyline

(09:15):
circulating the NFL season for three or four weeks, because
then the following week, of course, he gets the start
and he was lights out, and then he just lights
out again, and then everything came crashing down a few
weeks later. But for a stretch, a career second or
third string quarterback, Josh Dobbs had the entire NFL around

(09:40):
his fingers. Good Morning Football was talking about him, ESPN
First Take was talking about him. ESPN was highlighting Josh
Dobbs all the time. It was Dobbs Sanity, Dobbs mania,
whatever you want to call it. So if he can
do it in two or three days, three or four
days and put up impressive stats, again a career second

(10:02):
or third string quarterback, then why can't Daniel Jones step
in and be the backup quarterback? You know? Maybe not
this week against the Arizona Cardinals, but why not the
following week against whoever the Vikings play, then the Alanta Falcons. Maybe.
So I respect Ben Leeber, good player for the Vikings,

(10:24):
was a part of the nine Vikings run. It's got
some inside knowledge being a part of the kfan broadcast
of Minnesota Vikings football talks to players. But if Josh
Dobbs can do it at a starting level, then Daniel Jones. Sure,
Ken and I did not agree with that take whatsoever,

(10:47):
but I agree to disagree with Ben Lieber on that one.
So anyways, what did we learn Daniel Jones signed or
the Vikings. It's a big compliment to the Vikings organization.
And I learned or tried and failed and tried again
and was successful. Like much of my life, how to say, compensatory, compensatory,

(11:11):
A compensatory, pick a compensatory, pick a compensate A company,
a compensatory picks with no regard, but I made with
no regard for you in life.
