Speaker 1 (00:06):
Hold your horses, because Sam Donald and the Minnesota Vikings
rumors are just getting started. And the latest report comes
from a very credentialed NFL media member saying that Donald
and the Minnesota Vikings could still have a reunion. But
(00:28):
first out I address this very short thing, so stick
with me. Bill Belichick went on the Pat McAfee show
and was asked a question about North Carolina and his
main quote from his answer says, this Pro Football Talk
(00:49):
isn't a good source for me. Pro Football Talk is
run by Peter Florio, an inquisitive mind, someone that has
a very very popular website and gets a lot of
views and downloads and is very well known. But he
also likes to make up stories that aren't true. He
(01:13):
tries to read them between the lines and gather information
and throughout these stories from a quote unquote credential media
member that aren't true. It's more opinion based than source based.
And the day Kevin O'Connell signed his contract extension, he
(01:34):
posted an article on as saying, you know, the longer
this thing goes, you better be.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Careful Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
This thing could elevate in a hurry to become a
situation that is very, very bad.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
The off season prior, he was.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
All about the what's going on with the Justin Jefferson
contract act?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Why hasn't that been signed? Is he going to be traded?
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Are the Minnesota viks gonna look to trade him? It
is all Peter Florio and Charlie Walters of the Pioneer Press.
No offense to you, guys, but anytime I see a
report that is sourced by you, I do not believe
it because there is so much clickbait in those stories
(02:32):
and they aren't sourced, their opinion based, and so I
just thought it was funny to see Bill Belichick confirm
what I've been saying about Pro football talk for the
last year and a half.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
The JJ story never bought it for a second.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
The Kevin O'Connell's story never bought it for a second,
because the Minnesota Vikings were never gonna let those guys
walk out the door without a contracting sension in place.
The Minnesota Vikings were never gonna let those guys get
traded to an opposing team. The two most prominent figures
(03:17):
in the Minnesota Vikings organization, Justin Jefferson and Kevin O'Connell,
were always going to be.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Taken care of, and they did all right.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
As far as this latest Sam Donald report, Tom Pelasarrow he's.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Been on this for a few weeks.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
He said this, I'm K fan a few weeks ago,
and he recently said it again.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Purple Persuasion on X. Check them out, they're the best.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
According to Tom Pelisarrow, the most logical outcome of this
is Sam Donald still in Minnesota and that it makes
sense for the Minnesota Vikings to bring him back. Pellisiro
continued saying that there's no precedent for JJ McCarthy missing
(04:10):
an entire year of reps as a rookie and coming
back and playing again like it hasn't happened. Okay, So
this is very intriguing because all off season rumors and
speculation is going to be about where Sam Donald is
(04:33):
going to end up.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Because to the.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
First sixteen games of the season, Sam Donald had thirty
five touchdowns, twelve picks and was on the outside looking
in in being an MVP candidate.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
And then in week seventeen happens.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
It happens against the Detroit Lions, and then the playoff
game happens against the Los Angeles Rams and Donald stock Tanks.
But remember that throw and the game he had against
the Seahawks. Remember all those game winning drives and game
ceiling drives he had against the Packers and the Bears
(05:14):
and the Arizona Cardinals. Donald was stellar this year. And
what's going to be fascinating is how much weight teams
like the Minnesota Vikings put into Donald's first sixteen games
of the season versus his final two games of the season,
(05:37):
because at the end of the day, the Vikings had
a fourteen and three record, But also at the end
of the day, Donald saw ghosts and the most important
part of the season. And for some reason, he went
from the Green Bay Packers celebration to a guy that
would not get rid of the ball versus the Detroit
(06:01):
Lions and the Los Angeles Rams. He went from a
guy mid season that was solely focused on Jefferson to
spreading the ball around late in the year to not
throwing the ball in the final two games of the season.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
And this is going.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
To be more about the market first dam Donald, than
the Minnesota Vikings interest in bringing Donald back, because Donald
and the Minnesota Vikings, I'm sure they would agree to
terms of a contract if both teams could mutually agree
(06:41):
on a contract and what that amount was. But the
controversy comes with other teams in the NFL needing a quarterback,
and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN share this courtesy of the
Purple Persuasion.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Several execs have Darnold in that.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Baker Mayfield range of contracts, which is around three years
and one hundred million with strong guarantees. The Raiders and Giants,
both picking outside the top two spots in the draft,
might need to pay a quarterback. And the question or
(07:23):
the answer to that question is yes, those two teams
do need a quarterback, and the NFL draft is not
primed with five quarterbacks that are QB one worthy that
are going to go in the top fifteen of the
NFL draft. This year, it's a down year for quarterbacks
(07:47):
entering the draft, and that tells me that these teams,
like the Raiders or the Giants, they are going to
be in the market for Kirk Cousins for as Sam Darnold,
more than they would have been if there was a
Jajon McCarthy or a bow Knicks or a Michael Pennis
(08:09):
junior available in the upcoming draft. So the question that
needs to be answered is which quarterbacks this offseason are
the Raiders and Giants going to target because these teams
cannot come back with an Aidan O'Connell or a Gardner
Minshew or the Italian Stallion from the Giants. These coaches,
(08:36):
Brian Dable especially, he's got like one more year to
prove himself as the head coach of the Giants, and
in order to do that, he's not going to run
it back with the same quarterback or he's fired. Pete
Carroll wants to establish himself with the Raiders, and in
(09:00):
order to have a competitive roster right out of the gate,
he needs a quarterback. And he took Russell Wilson mid
round pick in the NFL draft, made him a Day
one starter, and they won a bunch of games. So
maybe that's Pete Carroll's approach to the quarterback position this offseason.
(09:21):
But one of the chances that you find a Russell
Wilson mid round in the NFL draft, it becomes a
Russell Wilson not very high. So if I had a guess,
I would assume that Sam Darnold and the Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Vikings would part ways.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
And that he would receive a big contract from a
Raiders or from a Giants and pursue an opportunity with
one of those football teams to beat QB one, and
that the Minnesota Vikings would go with a Jajon McCarthy
Daniel Jones situation where McCarthy's not ready, Daniel Jones is
(10:04):
plenty capable of starting a few games for the Vikings
next season, three, four or five games, and then maybe
McCarthy's ready, then he put him in Game six and
he finishes off the rest of the season, or maybe
Daniel Jones pulls off the impossible or the improbable and
does what Sam Donald did last year. So it's an
(10:26):
intriguing report by Tom Pelisarro because the possibilities are still open.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
But I don't necessarily agree with that.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
I do think the door is closed, and I don't
think Donald will return to the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
But again that's an opinion, it's not sourced.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
I try to put my mind inside the Minnesota Vikings
organization and think what is best for us and what
is best for the Vikings organization right now?
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Is ja J McCarthy, Daniel Jones.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Bringing a guy a left guard or right guard, whoever
both guys, if possible out of free agency, bolster up
your offensive line and get ready for the upcoming NFL season.
That's my prediction and that's what I think is going
to happen. Thank you for watching this episode. Thank you
